Embar was created on the 1st of September 1998 and, according to the Portuguese Civil Code, Embar is a non-profit association, and of which can be members any entity singular or collective, national or foreigner, operating with wood packaging.

Embar operates to promote the recycling of wood packaging, and to assure the recovery and valuation of all wood packaging waste recovered within “Sistema Ponto Verde” - Green Dot System. Embar also represents and defends the interests of all companies producing, recovering and/or recycling wood packaging.

Embar is integrated in Interfileiras, which role is to establish, within SIGRE – “Sistema Integrado de Gestão de Resíduos de Embalagem” - Packaging Waste Integrated System - the connection between the material Groups and Sociedade Ponto Verde (SPV), by promoting a coordinated, coherent and efficient participation of the several material Groups present in SIGRE.

Embar is an initiative, among many of the timber rank, of aimmp – Associação das Indústrias de Madeira e Mobiliário de Portugal that, motivated by a concern with the wood packaging problems, promoted its creation.
